New Commissioners New Meeting

Today was the first full meeting of the new board of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. At the helm was Commissioner Winder, the first African American Woman voted to the seat. There seemed to be a different vibe in the room. There was much more cross dialog between the commissioners and it seemed to be slightly more relaxed than the last board.

Three of the prison advocates spoke and our focus was to get all the commissioners on board to agree that the prision project is a priority. With them presenting a united front, the state representative and the state senator can work to put a placeholder for a line item for future funding. The Commissioners listened to our pleas, but made no comment. Time will tell if this will happen.

The Request for Information is still on track for coming out in the next month or so I believe, and we will be looking forward to the submissions that could come from that.

The next Commissioner Board meeting will be 1/25/2024. In the meantime the Norristown Municipal Council meeting will be held on 1/16/2024 and it is possible attendance to that meeting will take place to introduce our group to the new Council member recently voted in.
