The meeting held tonight was for the cleanup of the Prison property. As described in the attached document to the Engage site, the county has applied for a grant from the EPA - a rather competitive grant - for $4 million. This represents the total cost of the clean up which includes the removal of hazardous materials such as asbestos, lean, PCBs, and left over materials from water infiltration from being vacant for so long. As part of the grant application, they have to hold two public meetings on the cleanup process, of which tonight was one.


The meeting was not well attended, and the outcome of this was that they are asking the public for their thoughts on the cleanup process by January 25. A lot of public interest can help their chances of getting the grant. You can go to the Engage site (linked above) to review the slide show reviewed tonight, review the document entitled "Draft Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives", and make your comments.
