It's the Little Things

According to a HARB source, back in July of 2023, the HARB sent a letter to the county Commissioners thanking them for withdrawing the demolition request. At that time, they also requested removal of the tree that was growing through the wall in the southwest side turret. This was requested because the HARB stated the growth of that tree could be further damaging to the structure.

I received an email just yesterday informing us that the tree has been removed. A member of our group indicated that this is the first maintenance that has been done to the structure in decades. I want to thank the Commissioners for doing this small token to prevent any more damage to the building and hope that it underscores their change of heart that the building does have worth. It's the little things that don't take a lot of time or money that make a difference.
Back when the building first stopped its operations as a prison, there was a flurry of activity determining what could be done with the building. Several ideas were floated, but nothing caught any interest, probably because they felt it wasn't worth the money. Since that time, very little, save cutting of the grass around the front of the building has been done. I hope that since the Request for Express Interest (RFEI) is due to be sent out soon, there is a little interest to get the site looking enticing for a proposal. At any rate, thank you to whomever granted the HARB request and took care of this little task.
As an aside, the survey is still active for your participation if you haven't already. To date, there are 470 survey submissions. Let's work to get at least 500 by the close scheduled for 8/16/24. Please share your opinion, share the link to all of your contacts, as well as this blog. Finally, thank you for your support of this issue.
