As we close 2023, I just wanted to say a big thank you to all of the supporters who have engaged in the campaign to save the Prison building. It is my fervent hope that we find a beneficial reuse for the building that will be the pride of the Municipality and the County. Our group will do what we can to ensure that there is interested in submitting responses to the Request for Information (RFI) that the county will release and hold our commissioners' feet to the fire in making sure they change direction toward saving the building rather than destroying history. In addition, we will work toward engaging the community in determining the best use for the building.

As you know, the new Commissioners take office in a few days and we will continue our efforts to reach out to them for a face to face meeting to discuss what we are looking for and getting their support toward this effort. We will also reach out to the new and existing Council members to make sure they are in support of this fight. It is my fervent hope that we all come together toward making 35 E Airy Street an asset to the community by becoming a destination drawing visitors to the town and fostering economic development.

I wish you and yours a very Happy, safe, prosperous 2024.

So the RFI hasn't been issued yet? Wasn't it supposed to be by the end of the year??

Actually, the deadline was communicated to be at the end of 2024. As such, we were given the 6 month pause by Norristown Council. It has been stated by the county Planning Commission that it is currently being worked on, but of course they could not give any details. When there is more information regarding the RFI, we will let everyone know on this blog.
