Yes, I know it's been a minute since there has been a post. The truth of the matter is that there has not been any movement on this project, so rather than bother you with posts, it's been crickets.
As of the beginning of July, the county posted on their Engage site and they are currently in review of the RFEI proposal submissions. They were clear to point out that these proposals are not final plans, but concept plans that offer ideas on how to reuse the site. Once the Commissioners have reviewed them all they will outline the next steps.
However, the worrying part of this is that on the opening page of the Engage site, they say "The structure has continually deteriorated in the decades since it was closed. It will need to be demolished if a feasible reuse and redevelopment plan is not able to be determined.", which is definitely not music to our ears. Let's hope they find a concept they feel is necessary. So this begins a new cycle of community input. Write, or attend the Commissioners' Meetings, and talk about the importance of this building; its place in Norristown and its history.
The meetings schedule is as follows: Wednesday, July 16, Thursday, August 14, and September 4. All meetings are held at One Montgomery Plaza on the 8th floor starting at 10am. You can always attend virtually as well by sending an email to commissioners@montgomerycountypa.gov. Go to And while you are speaking you can congratulate Commissioner Makhija on his Emmy.
Finally, you can always send them an emails at the following addresses: thomas@montgomerycountypa.gov, l jamila@montgomerycountypa.gov., neil@montgomerycountypa.gov.
Thanks, and have a great summer staying cool as you can.
