It is with great appreciation and excitement that I report to you all that the Old Airy Street Prison has been placed on Preservation Pennsylvania's At Risk List. Back in June, applications were accepted to be nominated and due to the hard work of one of the Friends of the Prison group who completed and submitted the application, we were included! You can download the newsletter which has all the details and the two other sites that have been selected for the 2024s list here.
What this means for our fight is statewide attention the building, more support from the preservation community, along with the potential for funding. This will go a long way to potentially bring an incentive for any developers for an adaptive reuse plan when the county sends out their Request for Express Interest in September.
Again, thank you all for your support and attention to this building. We are on our way to saving the structure and creating an exciting adaptive reuse. If you have not already, participate with the county's survey. There is one month remaining to share your thoughts.
To date, they have had 80 responses and we would love to see it grow to many more. Let the county know you want to save this building and see a new use for it. The site for the survey also includes links to various reports the county has done so far.
